Design thinking process is the way to solve unique and messy problems in life. Start with “step zero” which means accepting the problem exists. Design thinking can help your way forward from where ever you are. Regardless of the life problems you are facing. But before you have to figure out which way you should choose, you need to find out where you are. Also, what kind of problems you are trying to solve. If you think like a designer you will create solutions to the problems with an entirely different mindset.
Designers classified problems as wicked problems and gravity problems. Wicked are the ones we can solve it by any means. Gravity problems are the one that is not actionable and have to accept it. If you got stuck somewhere in some area of life with a wicked problem then that’s a wonderful and exciting place to start.
Problem finding is the way to start a new beginning in design thinking:
In design thinking, we give importance to problem finding as much as we give to problem-solving. Because there is no point to work on the wrong problem for years and years. It is always not too easy to understand what our real problems are. We want to get a better job, get rid of unhappiness, get rid of pain, get rich, etc. Focus on the list of problems that are really needed to be solved first then you can easily solve other problems too.
Because Problem finding+problem solving= well-designed life
A beginners mind:
We often think that our first idea is best and then refuse to let it go. No matter how badly it turns out. Moreover, we should evaluate the results in many possible outcomes with that problem. So we can have thought about whether we choose the right idea or not. So, by beginners mind, we should take a decision by thinking about all the possible outcomes.
The key is not to get stuck on something that you have no chances of success. If you become open-minded enough to accept the reality you will be freed to reframe an actionable problem i.e, wicked problem.
The only response to gravity problems is acceptance. That is where all good designers begin. That’s why it is said, “Start where you are!” Not “where you think you should be”.
